The article is about A.P. Chekhov’s perception of the story Krejtserova sonata by L.N.Tolstoy. Chekhov has estimated «importance of the plot», «beauty of the composition», but hasn’t accepted Tolstoy’s ideology. The story Three years is a Chekhov’s solution of the problem of love and marriage. Chekhov’s original value is the time of human life. A person can properly understand the sense and value of love, marriage and family only in his personal existence.
