Abstract

Two comments to the problem of the text and intertext of Igor's Tale

The article offers an original interpretation of one of the controversial lexeme – “smaga” within the meaning of a “thirst,” but not a “fire” or “flame” and discusses the intertextual connection of Russian translate of Iliad by N.I. Gnedich with Igor’s Tale. When comparing the interlinear translation of some excerpts from Homer's Iliad and its art translations from the ancient text gives the impression that Gnedich knowingly used poetic vocabulary “words” to give the Iliad archaic flavor.
