Literary play can be explained as an operation carried out by the author who modifies or confirms a stereotype that a reader has in mind. Alexander Pushkin – playing with the convention of romantic short story – leads the reader into a meta-reality which does not correspond to either the real world or fantastical tales. Thus, he has an opportunity – which is not deprived of the extraordinary – to slip the truth about a man, here and now, with all his weaknesses and urges.
