Abstract
The epoch of ivan the Terrible in Boris Fedorov’s novel Prince Kurbsky
The article is devted to the depiction of the epoch of Ivan the Terrible in Boris Fedorov’s novel Prince Kurbsky. While working on the novel, the writer used documentary material, drawing on real-life and ethnographic detail, which enabled him to create a reliable image of the past. It corresponds to the common perceptron of 16th century Russia. The novel contains many drastic scenes associated with the activities of Ivan the Terrible. In his creation of the characters, the writer made extensive use of Gothic elements. The novel’s representation of the era also relies on some aspects of insane literature, which gives this time period an air of cruelty, lack of feeling and terror.
