Abstract

The image of Africa in Nadezhda Teffi’s emgration prose

We can find in N. Teffi’s emigration prose various examples of the image of Africa. N. Teffi never was in Africa herself, but the image of the African was readily available in her works. Teffi’s perspective on Africa was indirectly related to the tradition of travel literature, according to which Africa tempted by its diversity and exoticism. The aim of this article is to analyze the image of Africa, which is aimed at distinguishing the semantic structure of this motif and the ways of its linguistic representation. The lexical material was collected on the basis of the following sources: Volume Memories, essays and stories, published in the collection of short stories Рысь and Городок.
